| EPA Acts on Pesticides
Homeowners will soon be looking for non-chemical solutions
to pest and lawn problems. in 1999, the Environmental Protection
Agency initiated a ban against the
two most popular insecticides—Diazinon and Dursban.
The agreement reached by EPA and manufacturers mandated
the phasing out of these products in areas where children
could be exposed. These areas included schools, playgrounds,
daycare centers, recreation areas, hospitals, and malls.
Citing health and environmental concerns, both products
were phased out completely between 2002 and 2003.
Chlorpyrifos, also known as Dursban and Diazinon, are organo-phosphates.
They are broad-spectrum toxins that affect a wide range
of wildlife. The EPA determined that exposure to these kinds
of pesticides can have a neurological impact. Symptoms linked
to exposure can include blurred vision, muscle weakness,
headaches, memory problems, depression, and irritability.
High exposure can cause respiratory paralysis and death.
Heavy pesticide use began shortly after World War II when
experts believed these measures were beneficial in dealing
with agricultural disease and pest problems. Today, many
experts agree that pesticides have a limited effect and
disease mutation only leads to the development of new strains
that render toxic treatments useless.
It is an endless and dangerous cycle that can seriously
impact your health, the health of your family, and the health
of the environment.
Organic-based landscaping does not wage a battle but rather
combines a blend of nature with nature to help produce lush
lawns and pest and disease-free plants.
We offer a comprehensive organic landscape program designed
to provide for overall plant health care. We focus on developing
and maintaining healthy plants by creating conditions that
keep plant systems in balance. Healthy plants are strong
plants, allowing their natural defenses to protect them
against pests and diseases.
Our three-fold program includes: maintenance, installation,
and after care. Each area is tailored to meet the individual
client's landscape and property needs.
- Maintenance: includes scheduled mowing, thatching, and
spring/fall
clean-up
- Organic Turf Fertilization and Organic Grub Control
- Landscape Design and Installation
- Aeration and Over Seeding
- Lime
